SYNOPSIS

A gritty youth hockey team are given an unexpected opportunity to compete in the prestigious Can/Am tournament in Lake Placid.

Led by Grace Gaston – a determined team manager and mother of players Cameron and Damien – the Rockies enlist the help of Rob, a Canadian newcomer, to coach alongside Grace’s ex-husband, Charlie.

Despite initial friction between the coaches and skepticism from parents wary of the trip’s hefty expenses, the team experiences significant improvement under their leadership.

Through unwavering determination and fundraising efforts, the team makes their way to Lake Placid.

Faced with setbacks, including injuries to key players like Damien, they push through to the gold medal game against their rival, team Howell. In a thrilling finale, Damien delivers a crucial pass to his younger brother Cameron, who secures victory with a last-second goal.

The narrative, framed by retrospective interviews from 2005, delves into the intricate relationships among Grace, Charlie, and Rob while addressing themes of familial bonds, racial identity, and the search for meaning against the backdrop of Detroit’s mid-1990s struggles.
