THE
SYNOPSIS
A gritty youth hockey team are given an unexpected opportunity to compete in the prestigious Can/Am tournament in Lake Placid.

Led by Grace Gaston – a determined team manager and mother of players Cameron and Damien – the Rockies enlist the help of Rob, a Canadian newcomer, to coach alongside Grace’s ex-husband, Charlie.

Despite initial friction between the coaches and skepticism from parents wary of the trip’s hefty expenses, the team experiences significant improvement under their leadership.

Through unwavering determination and fundraising efforts, the team makes their way to Lake Placid.
​
Faced with setbacks, including injuries to key players like Damien, they push through to the gold medal game against their rival, team Howell. In a thrilling finale, Damien delivers a crucial pass to his younger brother Cameron, who secures victory with a last-second goal.

The narrative, framed by retrospective interviews from 2005, delves into the intricate relationships among Grace, Charlie, and Rob while addressing themes of familial bonds, racial identity, and the search for meaning against the backdrop of Detroit’s mid-1990s struggles.

Kevin Bray is a director and producer known for his work on Succession, Insecure, Run, The Americans, Snowfall, and the pilot of Suits. Bray began his film career directing the classic urban action comedy All About the Benjamins, as well as the 2004 remake of Walking Tall, starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

Leonard VanScott is a Producer and content creator from New York City. A film school graduate of Columbia College Hollywood, Leonard launched his career as a 20th Century Fox intern. This led to Producer Assistant roles for the FOX show, “Red & Meth” starring hip legends Redman and Method Man. Leonard produces music videos and short films, and currently has projects in various stages of development.

Robert Evangelista is President of The Business of Winning, LLC, a producer of programs in Leadership Development, Team Building, Performance Coaching, and Motivation based on his award-winning book. A former General Motors executive, Evangelista was head coach of the Detroit Rockies hockey team, the historic all-black hockey team that won the 1995 Can/Am Challenge tournament in Lake Placid, NY.
